ZR Ice Fox 50m Ice Fishing Line Monofilament Sinking Low Memory 0.08-0.18mm

ZR Ice Fox 50m is a monofilament line developed specifically for ice fishing, where cold temperatures, wet hands and small, precise presentations place particular demands on a line. It is supplied on a 50 metre spool and is available in a range of diameters from 0.08 mm to 0.18 mm, allowing anglers to match the line to their target species, lure weight and the conditions on the day.

The line is built with low memory, which is one of the most important characteristics for winter fishing. A line that retains coils from the spool can hang awkwardly, create slack between the rod tip and the lure and make subtle bites harder to read. A low-memory monofilament tends to lie straighter and behave more predictably, which helps when fishing small jigs, spoons and baited hooks through a drilled hole.

This is a sinking monofilament, so it helps the bait or lure settle naturally through the water column rather than being held up near the surface. For ice anglers working close to the bottom or fishing in deeper water, a sinking line can make it easier to keep contact with the presentation and to detect the gentle takes that are typical of cold-water species.

The line is also described as offering good knot strength. In practice, this means it can be relied upon when tying the small knots used in ice fishing, such as improved clinch or palomar knots, where a line that handles poorly can weaken the connection. Good knot performance is particularly valuable when fishing with fine diameters, as the margin for error is small.

According to the manufacturer, the line remains usable in temperatures down to -40 degrees. This is a manufacturer claim rather than an independently verified figure, but it indicates that the line is intended for serious winter conditions and not just occasional cold-weather use. It is a sensible choice for anglers who fish through the ice in northern Europe, where air temperatures can fall well below freezing and line stiffness becomes a real problem.

The line is clear in colour, which helps it blend into the water and reduces the chance of spooking wary fish in the clear, highly pressured waters that are common in winter. The 50 metre spool length is practical for ice fishing, as it provides enough line to fill a small ice reel or to re-spool several times without carrying unnecessary bulk.

Available diameters and stated breaking strains are as follows: 0.10 mm - 1.35 kg, 0.12 mm - 1.85 kg, 0.14 mm - 2.54 kg, 0.16 mm - 3.20 kg and 0.18 mm - 3.52 kg. A 0.08 mm variant is also listed, but no breaking strain is stated for that diameter in the source information.

In use, the ZR Ice Fox 50m is suited to a wide range of winter presentations, including small jigs, balance lures, spoons and baited rigs. The finer diameters are a good match for cautious fish and light tackle, while the heavier diameters offer more security when larger fish are expected or when fishing around structure. Because it is a monofilament, it also has a degree of stretch, which can help cushion sudden runs and protect light hook holds.
