Savage Gear SG4 Drop Shot Specialist 2.23m 2-12g Spinning Rod CCS SIN

Savage Gear SG4 Drop Shot Specialist 2.23m 2-12g is a dedicated spinning rod engineered specifically for drop shot fishing, where precise and natural lure presentation is everything. This rod has been developed to give the angler complete control over the lure, allowing soft plastics and other baits to be worked with the subtlety that drop shot fishing demands.

The blank is built from high-quality Japanese Toray 30T carbon fibre, a material chosen for its excellent balance of lightness, responsiveness and strength. This construction gives the rod the sensitivity needed to feel soft takes and the structural integrity to handle spirited fish at close quarters, making it a dependable tool for finesse-oriented anglers.

Fitted throughout the rod are high-quality CCS SIN guides. These guides are designed to manage line flow smoothly during both casting and retrieving, which helps reduce friction and supports accurate, controlled presentations. For drop shot work, where the lure is often fished on a relatively light line and needs to fall and move naturally, smooth-running guides make a noticeable difference to overall performance.

The rod features a comfortable EVA handle that provides a secure, non-slip grip. This is particularly valuable during drop shot fishing, where the rod is frequently held for long periods and the angler needs to impart small, precise movements to the lure. The handle design allows the rod to be held firmly while still permitting the delicate rod tip action that drop shot fishing relies upon.

Thanks to its well-balanced design, the SG4 Drop Shot Specialist casts light lures accurately and pleasantly. The 2-12g casting weight range covers the lighter end of the lure spectrum, which is exactly where drop shot fishing is most effective. The rod loads smoothly and releases energy evenly, helping to place small baits precisely where the angler wants them.

Although optimised for drop shotting, this rod is versatile enough to handle a range of lure presentations. It can be used with soft plastics, spoons, spinners and wobblers, making it a practical choice for anglers who want one rod capable of covering several light lure techniques. Whether fishing soft baits on a drop shot rig or switching to a small spinner or wobbler, the rod responds reliably.

With a length of 2.23m, the rod offers a good compromise between reach and manoeuvrability. It is long enough to cast effectively and control line on the drop, yet compact enough to remain comfortable when fishing from a boat, kayak or bank. The two-piece construction also makes transport and storage straightforward.

In summary, the Savage Gear SG4 Drop Shot Specialist is a purpose-built spinning rod for anglers who value finesse, accuracy and reliable performance. Its Toray 30T carbon blank, CCS SIN guides and EVA handle combine to create a rod that is both technically capable and comfortable to fish with over long sessions.
