The flavour and aroma of Hydra are driven by a balanced recipe based on fishmeals including salmon, sardine and krill, combined with a blend of hot spices. This medium-to-high calorie boilie reveals its full potential when water temperatures rise to around 10-12°C, making it a strong choice for spring through autumn sessions when carp are actively feeding.

Hydra boilies are semi-soluble, meaning they soften and break down fully in water over approximately 36 hours. This controlled breakdown releases attractors steadily, helping to hold fish in the swim and encouraging them to return to the baited spot again and again. The semi-soluble nature makes them ideal for high-pressure waters or competition fishing where carp are selective and wary of heavy, hard baits.

The recipe includes salmon meal, sardine meal, hydrolysed (water-soluble) fish proteins, fermented fish extracts, liver extract, a hot pepper and spice blend, N-Butyric, essential oils, special attractants, vitamins and minerals. This combination delivers a strong, natural fishmeal signal that carp associate with a safe, nutritious food source.

For best results, Hydra boilies can be used alongside other products from the Hydra range, including soluble Hydra boilies, liquid bait soak and Hydra groundbaits. This layered approach builds a consistent flavour and aroma signature in the swim, which can help overcome the caution of pressured carp.

When fishing commercial venues, we always recommend using a balanced spod mix with at least 50% particles such as tiger nuts, hemp seed, wheat and corn, with the remainder made up of boilies and pellets. To attract fish and encourage feeding from the baited spot, combining these protein boilies with soluble boilies is a proven approach. A faster attraction can also be encouraged by mixing fishmeal and grain-type boilies, for example Hydra with Berry Blend protein boilies.

The spicy Hydra recipe pairs well with high-calorie pellets such as Halibut pellets or a Tastymix pellet blend containing spicy pellets. Extra aroma can be added to Hydra boilies or the whole bait base by including cayenne pepper, Sriracha sauce (up to 150 ml per 1 kg of mix) or by using Hydra liquid bait supplement.
