Xesta Black Star Extra Tuned S69ULX-S is a specialist light spinning rod developed from the well-loved TZ Tuned S69-S platform, rebuilt on the new Extra Tuned blank base. The aim was to retain the familiar blank characteristics that anglers appreciated while refining the overall feel and finish. After around six months a prototype arrived and was tested intensively from the Fishongid boat. Following final feedback and last adjustments, the manufacturer produced the rod now available in our range.

In our view the Xesta rod builders listened closely to the requests and delivered exactly the kind of spinning rod we had in mind: a rod that looks good, feels exceptionally sensitive, remains sharp enough with a lure, but bends willingly when a fish takes. At just 60 g it is remarkably light in the hand, and the combination of Fuji Torzite guides, a 15 cm Short Solid tip and a comfortable EVA handle immediately conveys a sense of completeness and top-tier quality.

The Short Solid tip is a key feature for light spinning. It provides a soft, progressive action at the front end that helps to absorb the surges of a fighting fish and gives the angler clear feedback about what is happening at the lure. Xesta Black Star Extra Tuned - the basic idea was to replace the TZ Tuned S69-S model, which is a favourite of anglers, while maintaining similar blank characteristics, but in a new Extra Tuned rod base. When the prototype arrived a good six months later, it was tested extensively on the Fishongids boat. After the final comments and the last touches, the manufacturer baked the fishing rod that we already have on the market. In our opinion, the Xesta rodbuilders have succeeded in listening to our wishes and we have exactly the rod we imagined: good-looking, extremely sensitive, sharp enough with the bait, but leaning away from the bite. Weighing just 60g, the rod is adorned with Fuji Torzite rings, a Short Solid 15cm tip and a comfortable EVA grip - and when it's in your hands it immediately gives you a feeling of completeness and top quality. XESTA spinning rod Black Star Extra Tuned S84MH-T is the most powerful model in the Extra Tuned series, originally designed by the manufacturer for rockfishing style fishing in the Japanese coastal waters, where you need to catch medium-sized fish at a maximum distance from the shore with a wide variety of baits: our usual rubber lures fed on a head hook, wobblers or small pilkers. For this purpose, the manufacturer has designed an extremely fast-action long-range blank, which, when tested by anglers, often amazes them with its amazing ballistic qualities. The lower part of the spinning rod has an extra reserve so that it can be reeled in fearlessly when a larger catch is hooked on a rocky feeder. In our waters, this rod is more suitable for those who like to fish from the shore, in dams or rivers, where conditions require extremely long casts and high sensitivity in casting at maximum distance from the fisherman. The main targets of the owner of this spinning rod would be perch, pike and even sturgeon when a small 3-3.5" lure on a ~10g head hook is required.

Comparing the Extra Tuned S84MH-T with the second generation Black Star II S83 model of similar parameters, we have to note that the former is drier, more sensitive with less reserve and can be used mainly for jigging in our conditions, while the second generation Black Star is more versatile and more elastic.

The XESTA Runaway SLS S94 Super Long Shooter is a fantastically built and beautifully balanced rod, the most suitable in our conditions for the riverside angler targeting salmon, pike and even the most coveted of all - the queen of the rivers - salmon. It is at its best when casting what it was designed for, metallic baits such as shiners or vibes, but it is also excellent with wobblers or traditional rubber baits on a head hook. From quite a lot of practice, we can say that it is most comfortable to cast lures that fall in the middle of the manufacturer's weight limits, i.e. 10-20g, and as you get closer to the maximum 30g, the blank gets a bit overloaded, and in such a case, we would recommend to choose the more powerful version of Runway SRF 10ML. It should also be noted that the blank is fast in the retrieve, much more sensitive than most other Seabass rods, so it can be successfully jigged in the usual way.

XESTA Runway SLS series rods, originally designed by Japanese manufacturers for fishing in the sea from the shore using the Super Light Jigging (SLS) method, which differs from our jigging in the fact that we don't throw headhooks with rubber bands, but in this case, small pilkers, and sharp strokes are used to catch the whole depth vertical, throwing the bait as far away as possible from the shore.
